GDL/LPC
Completing your degree is just one step towards beginning a career as a solicitor.
Law graduates need to complete the Legal Practice Course (LPC) before they can start the training contract. Non-law graduates need to complete a one-year conversion course, the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL), before completing the LPC.
Law School
We currently have provider relationships with both Kaplan Law School and the College of Law. We ask that our future trainees study their GDL and/or LPC at one of these institutions, as they provide a tailored course and relevant electives to better prepare our future trainees for life as a trainee at Clyde & Co. We may look to appoint a sole GDL and LPC provider next year.
We will consider requests to study at other locations depending on individual circumstances.
LPC subject areas
The LPC will provide you with practical skills required in your future working environment. It consists of three compulsory subject areas: Business, Property, and Litigation (Civil and Criminal).
A further three subjects, known as electives, are also studied. To match our practice areas and so that you are prepared on starting your training contract, we ask that you choose from the following electives: Advanced Litigation/Dispute Resolution, Commercial Law, Acquisitions, Insurance Law and Shipping and International Trade.
Sponsorship
Once you have accepted a training contract with us, we provide sponsorship for both the GDL and the LPC (provided you are not eligible for funding from your LEA). In addition, you will receive an annual maintenance grant of £7,000 if you are studying in London or Guildford, or £6,000 if you study elsewhere.
Staying in touch
Once you have accepted a training contract with us, we will keep in touch with you over the two years before you join. We have a number of social events over the two years to ensure that you meet your peers and really get to know them before your first day at work.
